Fan Expectations

Protocols and Expectations for Spectators

The following are reminders for Orono athletic events that will be enforced to ensure a safe and respectful environment. THANK YOU for supporting our student-athletes in providing a positive environment in which educational activities are conducted.

  • The observance of appropriate language is imperative at all times. Any form of profanity, derogatory remarks, jeering, disrespectful behavior, or personal attacks is strictly prohibited.
  • Targeting individuals such as opposing players, coaches, or officials will result in immediate ejection from the event.
  • The possession, use, consumption, sale, or presence of alcohol, tobacco products, or illicit substances on school premises or during any school-related function is strictly forbidden.
  • Bringing in outside food, beverages, or any type of containers, including cans, is not permitted.
  • Pets and animals are not allowed unless they are a recognized service animal. Event supervisors will work with those individuals to provide the safest and best experience for everyone.
  • Re-entry for spectators is not allowed. Once a spectator exits the event venue, re-entry is prohibited.
  • The use of confetti, balloons, toilet paper, or artificial noisemakers such as cowbells, sirens, megaphones, whistles, or air horns is strictly prohibited.
  • Handheld signs must be approved by school administration. They are commonly permissible as long as they are tasteful and do not obstruct the view of other attendees.
  • All students in grades K-8 must be accompanied by an adult for entry to home athletic events. Direct adult supervision must continue throughout the duration of the entire event.
  • It is strictly prohibited for anyone other than official team members to enter the playing area. Interference with the progress of the competition by any individual is not permitted.

According to MSHSL Bylaw 409-2, school officials are accountable for ensuring the appropriate behavior of teams, team members, students, and home spectators regardless of the event location.

Spartans, please remember that you represent our district at all times. As a fan, you are expected to be mindful and respectful of other fans, athletes and event personnel. This includes following the expectations of the schools you are visiting and doing what you can to provide the best experience for all event participants.
